A Rebel Year

Well they're back - the rebels are making a welcome return to the pitch and perhaps
we might all have a day out in Croke Park this summer after all.
After reading a post on the People's Republic of Cork website last week I got to thinking...
This person was encouraging the growth of support for Cork GAA for the future - Munster have their thing going, Cork City (soccer) have a huge promo campaign, but Cork GAA supporters seem to be an underground organisation. Where do all of these people come from when the Championship begins? Cork supporters the dominant attendees at any Cork match..
SO... I was thinking... perhaps Cork GAA should begin to partake in a little social networking...
I could totally watch Cork playing...am lets say Kilkenny, on Second Life - it would be fantastic!
Instead of the old school way of the whole family sitting around the wireless in a country kitchen listening to the match on a Sunday they could now all gather around Mr. AppleMac and savour the atmosphere of a full blown GAA game on Second Life.... if that's your thing of course.
The could have a IGO people account and answer fans questions about the strike and their love of Gerry Mac... Oh it would be just great!

Web 2.0 Mania

Unless you have someone, like our dear lecturer, pointing you in the right direction when it comes to Web 2.0 how do you learn all about it? If you work everyday 9-5, commute home, have dinner then go and meet friends, where do you have time to blog, upload your photos on facebook, organise a wiki... It is all so beneficial but how do you prevent it from consuming your life! It seems that this is the way forward but will there be a point when people just get so sick of telling the world about their every move!
From my experience over the last few years it is those in the Arts who are not embracing this dynamic tool. Having attended various conferences it is only late last year that I began to notice New Media topics on the agenda of these courses. It is a fantastic low budget way to get yourself and your organisation out there. To set up a business you don't need an office, just grab a laptop and sell yourself online! :-)
Just DO IT!

Blogger

Hey... this is only my second blog.. I am learning as I go.
I presumed some people would just come and find me and comment on what I had written.. that didn't happen!
So now I am twittering aswell so that should get the ball going...
How rejected will I feel if I still get no comments... Leaving yourself open for a total let down.
GREAT!!
